longjohn
We felt the need. The need for speed, (I tried to keep up) so we met in the AM at Starbucks. We headed up Lake Hughes Rd. We then turned left on Pine Canyon which has newer asphalt until Three Points. Looking down into the western Antelope Valley on Three Points. Tehachapi Mts., and wind farm in the distance. We stopped at Three Points and 138 to decide whether to head up to Kernville or Frazier Park/Ojai/Santa Paula, and we chose the later, partly to do in reverse a ride we had all done many times before. Oh, and we got to ride on the western most part of Pine Canyon. Watch out for the organic debris in that corner! We crossed the 5 and headed up to Pine Mt. Club where we encountered some wet roads, with red sand added to enhance our fun. Oy. After Pine Mt. Club we hit Hudson Ranch Rd., a standout SoCal MC road. Hudson Ranch Rd lets you look down into the SW San Joaquin Valley, if there aren't low clouds in the way. Annnnd a bit clearer pic of the clouds down in the valley, with the Sierras in the distance. We stopped at Klipstein Rd to regroup, relieve, and decide where to eat. Tina's is a favorite, but we decided to try a new one: The Place in Cuyama, SB Co., between the fire station and 33/166 intersection. It turned out to be a good choice. Good food and service! That being said I did feel a bit guilty about bypassing Tina's. We headed to Ojai on 33. We slogged thru Ojai's traffic then took 150 down to Santa Paula where we caught South Mountain Rd which parallels 126, and then 23 and Grimes Canyon. Here you can see the Santa Clara River Valley which is a big agricultural area. And Grimes Canyon. Then we hoped on the 118 just in time for the afternoon traffic. All in all it was a great day for winter motorcycle ride. Temps ranged from 50º-70º. Carl, Don and I reached out to others in the area to join us, but I guess even the Starbucks proximity and their FooFoo coffee couldn't bring them out. Next time fellers! Oh, I named this the 5 County Ride because we rode through LA, Ventura, SB, SLO and Kern countries. Carl might have gone through 6. 11 Link to comment

MikeRC
Thanks for the ride! On my way to Morro Bay in November I stumbled on Hudson Ranch Road and got a chuckle from the snow warning signs (remember, I'm from Canada). Maybe I'll go back next month when the days are an hour or so longer. Mike C Link to comment
