Lights under mirrors on K1100LT - wire routing?

A kind soul is making me some brackets to mount driving lights under the mirrors of my K1100LT. I'm trying to figure out the "best" way to route the wiring. My first guess is that the cleanest solution is to drill holes under the mirrors and just run the wires through the bike's "plastic" but drilling holes in the fairing makes me nervous. Wondering if anyone here has similarly mounted lights on an LT/RT and how the wiring routing issue was addressed.

Thanks, Bud - I think that may be the solution instead of drilling holes in the fairing body.
