Cap, Standard version or GT version of the T-31?

I use the GT versions of the T31.  The Dunlop Road Smart 3 was fine, but I was hoping for longer tread life for some additional cost.  The RS3 has about .5mm more initial tread depth than the T31 GT rear tire, and I was hoping the extra tread depth would translate into greater distance, but it did not for me.  Before COVID, I had been planning to ride to Alaska and back, and I wanted a tire that could last at least 7000 miles.  So, I mounted a set of rims with a T31 GT front, and a Dunlop RS3 rear.  The trip got cancelled, and instead I ran the tires on the mountain roads in Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona.  Our roads here are very abrasive, so 5500 miles of treadlife on a rear tire is not exceptionally low  -- but still, under similar conditions,  my previous T31 GT rear tire lasted longer.

My T-31's lasted longer on both ends than the RS III's did too. Front RS III was really disappointing as far as wear and noise goes.
