Scotty62 Posted September 20, 2019 Posted September 20, 2019 Hi folks! I’m new to this group and new to BMW motorcycle ownership. I just purchased a 2007 L1200GT with 21,000 miles on it. All the recalls and campaigns were taken care of per a different dealer (BMW). Occasionally when I’m riding, I hear a clunk sound, and can feel it where my left leg presses up against the body of the bike. Similar and maybe related, sometimes when I take off from a dead stop in 1st gear, I hear a ratcheting sound. Any thoughts or similar experiences would be appreciatead. Thanks!
Limecreek Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 I had the same bike and same year. If like my clunk, you can trace it to the front end, then you likely have a failure of lower ball joint of the duolever. You can check it on your own by raising the front wheel off the ground and pull back and forth on the fork. The ratchet sound (squawk) is the clutch, the clunk is likely the ball joint.
