Joe Frickin' Friday Posted September 20, 2019 Posted September 20, 2019 I watch "Cops" a couple of times a week. Every now and then they show a motorcycle chase, but the perp invariably crashes within a minute or so. This chase took a little longer: It's like the motorcycle-based version of the foot chase between Reeves and Swayze in Point Break: popping over curbs, up stairs, through tight alleys, squeaking between cars. Nuts. No crash, the perp surrendered peacefully at the end; not sure if he chickened out or ran out of gas. Crazy riding, he must have known he wasn't opening up a gap and that it was just a contest to see who was going to crash first (nobody, it turns out).
Kirkus Posted September 20, 2019 Posted September 20, 2019 In shorts and flip-flops ..... I'm surprised that no additional police vehicles were involved in the pursuit.
RPG Posted September 20, 2019 Posted September 20, 2019 Many, many years ago us neighborhood kids would ride our mini bikes in a field near our school. Every so often the Warren, MI police would show up, and mostly tell us that we couldn't ride there. Back then we had a lot more respect for the Police as a country and as long as you said "yes sir, no sir", they would smile and let you have fun, even telling us once that it was one old lady who kept calling them, so they had to show up and "hassle" us. This one time though, a schoolmate of mine (bit of an ass) decided to smart off to the officer and he came to school the next day, sporting a nice black eye and a definite adjustment in his attitude. Hope this kid had the same experience.

Coulda sworn I saw a cop car somewhere in there, going the opposite direction with lights on. No guarantee he was part of it, but I'd be surprised if he wasn't.
Paul De Posted September 20, 2019 Posted September 20, 2019 Dood needed more horsepower. PO would negotiate what ever obstacle the fleeing rider put at him and then reel him in on the straights. I think the fleeing rider got tired as you could see him getting more sloppy toward the end of his attempted escape You cant outrun a motorolla!

He won't arrive at the jailhouse w/o broken bones and contusions... Escapee showed a little Rossi action lifting a leg in the turns.
Joe Frickin' Friday Posted September 20, 2019 Author Posted September 20, 2019 Some of you may have already figured this out: I did a Google-translate on "fuga alucinante", and it came back as Portugese for "mind-blowing escape". Ironic, since he didn't actually escape, but it led me to a YouTube complication of similar chases called "VIDA DE POLÍCIA - FUGA ALUCINANTE PELA FAVELA". Haven't watched that, it's possible it includes the video I linked to upthread, but the interesting point is the word favela, which suggests that all of these chases happened in the slums of Brazil.

Yes, I saw a couple other PO's (could have been the same one,) but they could not join in properly because he was not calling it (too fast!!) It seems to me that the chase made a few returns on similar roads/alleys. Good grief on all the turns, by the way. Kudos for the LEO keeping up and avoiding any incidents. He had quite a few good lines he was running. Just saying' Pretty amazing to watch. Thanks for posting.

roadscholar Posted September 20, 2019 Posted September 20, 2019 Better than some Hollywood chases, although the kid seemed to know the 'hood pretty well.
bendbill Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 Some of those dirt alleys [?] were tricky. What kind of moto did the officer ride? Maybe a 250-350? At one point I saw 88 kmh, which is scary on those narrow lanes and traffic dividers.
RandyShields Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 Stupid, stupid, stupid. Looks like the perp finally surrendered shortly after he bounced his left leg off a wall. Surprised to see the cop riding with short sleeves and no gloves.
Lowndes Posted September 29, 2019 Posted September 29, 2019 And a good time was had by all. Woke up everyone in the Favela. Did you see the expressions on the faces in the back alleys?? I'd guess some of those folks were glad the cop was jus' passin' thru.
elkroeger Posted September 30, 2019 Posted September 30, 2019 I was wondering if it was in South America somewhere. Looks like Atlanta to me, but the Portuguese is throwing me off. 1
RandyShields Posted September 30, 2019 Posted September 30, 2019 Glad the cop was riding without gloves; that made it easier to use both hands to rack the slide of his handgun. Wonder what those perps did to have a motor cop shooting at them during the chase! 1
