TEWKS Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 Tew-Mac Airport I grew up a mile away from the airport and as a kid (ok adult too ) my head would constantly be looking up as planes were approaching or leaving. In 88 I took some flying lessons out of there and it was probably one of the most exciting things I've ever done in my life. Anyway, I was sad to see it go. (still am actually but realize there are bigger things in life to use that emotion for) Now, this probably won't interest many people that didn't have a connection to the place but for me it was cool enough to share. The vid is long and uncut but Paul M. ( Local Reporter) at the time takes a flight with the owner of the airport, Warren Hupper. He also interviews him and a few other people.
Skywagon Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 Sad...happens a lot. Many of these smaller airports were built by the military for training during WW ll. Here are a few more from your location: Braintree Airport Fall River Municipal Airport Naval Air Station South Weymouth Naval Air Station Squantum Tew-Mac Airport If you want to see across the US this Wiki Link has most, not all, listed. I think we can post links. If not mods please delete and forgive. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_defunct_airports_in_the_United_States#Massachusetts 1
John177 Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 Is there a concrete plan for what should happen to the area?

Sorry John, this is actually an old story but I just found that video yesterday. Yep, 97 was the last flight out of there. In its place we have this beautiful country club and yes I hate it.
Marty Hill Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 The airport where I learned to fly is long gone. Rows of houses now. In fairness Im talking 1961. 1
