Driving Miss Daisy

Always asking for advice here.  It has been way too long since I’ve seen many of you.  Living overseas has it’s advantages but many disadvantages as well. Oh well, onto the request for info.

Melissa and I bought our dream vehicle that we talked about for a few years and will be relocating Miss Daisy from Grand Rapids, MI to southern AL.  I want to show her parts of the BRP and possibly Skyline Drive (Looking for our future cabin).  We will camp the entire way and will do some day hikes. We have 5 1/2 days to be in Gatlinburg where we rented a cabin for the weekend before continuing three more days to the destination.

Any tips on a route to get us to the mountains quickly without interstate travel, places or things we must see?

Thanks in advance!

I'm leaving metro Detroit tomorrow morning heading to Pembroke, VA and plan on hiking to Cascade Falls on Sunday and late afternoon Damascus, VA and Straight Branch Falls.

I'll take US 23 south to Toledo and then jump on the Ohio Turnpike and take that east to I-77 south to 460 east. I won't be taking the Skyline Drive or BRP.

Two years ago I hiked up to Humpback Rocks, near Waynesville, VA on BRP mile post 5.8

Crabtree Falls is near by.

Hope you can stop at my place for a night!

Hey Marty - Not sure yet.  We plan to stay in Helen one night after Gatlinburg, then on to Gadsden to stay with Allycia and Jeff.  Maybe a short visit as we pass through?  I have not looked at a route, or maybe you can ride up to Helen for lunch.

Steve, call when closer and you have a plan.  Say hi to the kids for me.

Sounds good Marty.
