I know.  I know.  We buy them.  We ride them.  But, stuff like this and BMW's stonewalling on design faults (fuel strip, halo ring, final drives) = customers don't matter.

my car has apple car play....it was/is free.  I hate it.  I have it deselected.  It really does things with the GPS I find hard to use.  I'm sure some love it, but I don't care for it.

Apple Carplay does weird stuff with Waze and Google maps I agree but the other apps word just great.   OTOH, the BT (non car play) implementation in my '15 335 just sucks and requires a fiddling around often to connect.
