Bevel gear shaft seal replacement. BMW tool needed?

While pulling the final drive for a clutch job and spline lube on my 97 R1100RT, I was treated to a splash of gear oil when i removed the FD boot.

The rear of the transmission looked dry. So that leaves the bevel gear shaft seal (33 11 7 665 838). I cleaned it up spotless and dry and put a bit a gear oil back in and left it standing on end to it might leak again. This morning it was slightly wet with oil, though no drips.

Thankfully that seal's price has not gone up $20/year, but, is there any trick to getting it out?

Do I have to remove the threaded ring? (33 11 2 333 120) Or can the seal be extracted otherwise?

Is there any substitute tooling that would get the ring out?

Evening Hotmop

You will need to remove the threaded ring as the seal is on the back of that. Removing that ring will take a special tool (or you can make one).

If you are using synthetic gear oil you might try some conventional gear oil as sometimes that will slow or stop the  seal seepage. Even with a new seal you could still have a little gear oil seepage (fairly normal).
