barryNmarin Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 I'm heading down Hwy 1 from Marin Co tomorrow and camping along the way; Pismo Beach tomorrow and Big Bear Lake on Wednesday. I plan on riding the Angeles Crest Hwy on Wednesday and wondered if any of you SoCal locals have any advise or recommendations re that stretch of road as I've never been on it before. Comments welcome.
Groanup Posted July 9, 2019 Posted July 9, 2019 Just a heads up on road closure. There are detour signs, but here are the directions... Angeles Crest is closed at the Mt. Wilson turn off. However, from LaCanada , drive about 9 miles, then turn left at Angeles Forest hwy. Go another 8.5 miles and turn right on Upper Big Tujunga (one of my favorite stretches of road). Follow UBT another 9 miles and it will put you back on Angeles Crest. I know of no other closures, so you should be good from there. Watch for rocks on the road surface in the high country. Usually after the tunnels. I'd love to join you, but I have other commitments on Wednesday. Enjoy the ride!
