R1100RT Clutch thrust rod modifications

Just took the transmission off my 97 R1100RT to solve a slipping clutch and lube the splines. Noticed most how-to's and videos mention the thrust rod (21 52 7 659 112) having a felt ring (23 21 1 230 440) and mine does not. I understand it was a change to reduce rattling when the rod was not loaded. Mine, in fact, does rattle a bit.

I have a lathe and the will to try. Any chance someone has a newer rod out of a bike and could tell me the exact dimension of the change?

From the pics on the BMW parts sites, it appears to be from about 80mm to 100mm from the transmission end. Not sure of the diameter. I could guess, but figured it was worth the ask to get it exactly right.

Thanks,

Matt

Afternoon Matt

Is your present push rod a 2 color push rod?  Like one end is a different color?

If so that might be a hollow push rod, if it is and you cut that notch with a tool bit then you might end up with 2 short push rods.

Dirt,

Why yes, it is a fashionable two-toned. I guess that idea is right out.

Now, is that little rattle worth the $60 for a replacement? Great questions for man to ponder.

Thanks for setting me straight.

Best,

Matt
