That's just plain poor riding ability-- That vehicle telegraphed it's intention way before it was hit but even so there was no avoidance attempted  at all by the rider.

Well that was just dumb. I mean the riding, the "article" in VisorDown which was clearly written by someone who has exactly as much information as we have (they watched a video on the internet - no actual news is provided), and the bot post here.

 

As for the rider, I often told my driving students to watch for drivers making bad decisions as people who make one bad decision often make many bad decisions. While I do put some fault on the car for turning left from clearly the wrong lane (and without first checking for a clear path/no pedestrians), the rider had, as you DR say, PLENTY of time to see and respond but does nothing. As for prior bad decisions, well - whatever he did to get the bike impounded probably wasn't a good choice...
