Passport radar mounting on ST?

Anyone out there with any recomendations on how to mount my Passport on my 1200ST? Also I have a budy with Busa and he runs a cord up his sleeve from the passport to an ear peice. I can see always yanking it free as I pick my nose or some other wire yanking movement. What works to notify when the radar goes off I react?

It's simple to install and use. It mates perfectly with the Passport unit.

This is my setup. On a Gadget Guy bar with ram mounts I run the audio into a Mixit with my XM and an Ipod. My GPS doesn't have voice prompts but the next one probably will.

I remember a photo of someones ST with the radar detector mounted on top of the clutch fluid resovoir. The power cord was just plugged into the stock power outlet near the left leg.

I like the TECH mount Scotty recomended. I'll probably hard wire some juice up to the radar detector. The little red light looks pretty trick; but I want to wait and see what other options come up. Maybe I could just electrify my right wrist then when the detector goes off the electricity will contract the muscles and apply the brake removing all reaction time from the equation. With the ABS I probably wouldn't kill myself.

I just stuck my V-1 on top of the brake reservoir with that 3M super velcro. Over 9,000 miles and it works just fine.

Timmer do you have any gadget to notify when the radar goes off or do you just rely on the unit lights?

I have the V-1 (along with my Garmin GPS and the Kenwood 2 way radio) hooked into an Autocom Active 7 Smart audio system which feeds into my helmet.

 

The visual warning alone just doesn't cut it for me - especially on an ST where you're going to have to mount it relatively low in your normal field of vision.

I got two for my ST, one for the V-1 and one for my GPS. I got mine from Pirates' Lair. They're pretty expensive ($80), but they work perfectly, especially on the ST, where mounting accessories requires some imagination. These BMW-only items are also available from many BMW dealers and are sold under the ZTechnik brand name.

I vote for the Techmount systems. I have them on my bike and they work great. They are high quality, lite and very adjustable. They are also very reasonably priced for the quality that you get. I have two of them, one for my Quest2 GPS and one for my Valentine1 radar detector.

I have my Escort Solo in the top of my tank bag, plugged into my Mix-It amp/mixer along with the Garmin and MP3. Garmin is mounted on the Techmount, MP3 in the tank bag, with a remote run just outside the bag. Everything works fine.

So many choices so little time. I got to go ride and mull this over. I like the velsro to the top of the clutch resavoir. Simple CHEAP. Now how to wire myself into the loop? Thanks guys.

Tim, I just picked up my ST last weekend (traded in an '02 R1150R). I ordered a Gadget Guy bar for my Quest and XM Roady and was thinking of mounting my V1 just like you did on the reservoir lid. Do you find that location is ok for rear warnings ?

Rear warnings? It seems to work just like normal in that direction. Given that that the V-1 rear facing sensor is of off to the right side and the V-1 is mounted on the right side of the handlebars, it has a fairly clear "view" behind and to the right. If the V-1 was mounted more towards the centerline of the bike it would be blocked more. That's one of the reasons I chose the right side rather than a more centered mount.
