Hey Mitch, the reason we switched the group meal to Friday night instead of Saturday is for people who leave on Saturday because of distance, weather, or other commitments. We have found that more people are able to make a Friday night meal, so it was a good change.

Good stinkin'.  See ya soon...

How much contact patch does one need, anyway? I must need a bigger tire!

Near misses today.

This hawk dropped it's prey in order to get out of the way. It had been trying to fly across my path (R to L) from its resting place in the ditch to my right.

I ducked for cover - no contact.

I love it when a plan comes together! ~Hannibal Smith

Unfortunately I'm still one critical part short of my brake rebuild coming together on the F650 so I'll be on the 1200.  Geez, life's rough!  Looking forward to seeing you guys!

Tweaked my back moving the remainder of our stuff out of the rental. Got worse all day today. Loads o' ibuprofen, rest, and care may help me rebound enough. I'm hoping anyway. We'll see.

....then you too could cover the center lines with your rear tire!  :-)  jb  Great photos of the near miss with the hawk, and so glad you both missed each other!

Just for the record, I don't have an F650 (although I wouldn't mind one).  I'll be bringing my trusty KLR.  I got a set of Shinko 60/40 tires on the way (that's 60% on/40% off road tires.)  I've been running Avon Gripsters for years since I don't really go off pavement that much since leaving Texas, but I'm hoping to change that.

Despite a tumble Sunday morning, I am still on for leading a fire road route from Dahlonega to Suches after lunch Thursday. I explored Duncan Ridge Road (which begins with a left turn at Wolfpen Gap), and discovered that since I last rode it, there have been multiple fresh dumps of coarse granite gravel, which is still very loose. I got through all but the last one successfully, but there was a large rock in the middle of the road, and I didn't successfully ride around it, pitching to the left. My left side is still a little sore, but thanks to a mesh body armor shirt that I picked up last summer, I emerged without a scratch. The clutch lever snapped in half, but left enough for easy shifting, and I carry a spare clutch lever anyway. Riding by myself reminded me that if you can't pick up a bike by yourself, you shouldn't be riding off-road. Fortunately, the XT225 weighs only ~240 pounds.

So, if there will be people on the ride on heavy bikes with 60/40 tires, I'm not planning to take Duncan Ridge. Cooper Creek Road, which is sooner, might be a better choice, a left turn just before Lake Winfield Scott.

Anybody who still wants to ride Duncan Ridge is welcome to split off.

Would anyone mind if I bring stick-on names tags for pizza and dinner?  There are new folks attending and some of us regulars have memory problems...

That is a great idea John. We have quite a few 1st time FARTers and it will help them as well as those of us with memory problems :)

That's what I've been doing and it's seems to be working.

Took the day off. Stayed in bed till 12. Feeling pretty good,  but I'm going to take it easy.

I need this event! Packing up some clothes right now, in fact. I'm planning to be there.

Thanks Selden, and glad you're OK!  I'll be on the big GS but still OK with (most) fresh gravel and rocks.  I mostly ride solo and would rather ride the fun stuff when there's help around.  You're the local leadership so whatever you decide is good with me!

If I were further along with moving in I might be able to bring the leftover ID lanyards from UN 2017. Alas, our new house is still a forest of stacked boxes.

Who knows? Maybe they'll turn up before I head out.

Well I thought the tire situation was solved until Deb said she could make it. Now her bike's rear tire is less than 1mm from the wearbars. I found this Sunday after noon and dealers opened till today. I ordered a tire off of Revzilla that was supposed to get here today. I am still waiting, tic tic tic!! Fedex is run by idiots, they ship the tire to Madison AL, 110 miles away. The tire came thru the terminal in Nashville. Nashville to Chattanooga and Madison AL are exactly the same distance apart, but Chattanooga is only 45 miles. Can you say Dumbash!!!

You have my sympathy. FedEx ain't UPS. A couple of years ago my daughter's boyfriend was involved in a collision with a FedEx truck that came around a turn too fast on 2 wheels. The FedEx driver was ejected and ended up in the ICU because he wasn't wearing a seatbelt. UPS would be all over him for driving without a seat belt (not too mention too fast for conditions).

I cant make the whole weekend due to a work obligation.  I do plan on showing up early on Friday morning and looking for a small group to hang out with for the day and do some riding.  Its only about a 45 minute ride from the house.  Planning on doing the Friday night dinner thing before I head back home.  It has been a while since I was able to attend any of these events.

I suspect it will depend on how my side feels by Thursday. One of the attractions of the house we moved to in 2017 was a Jacuzzi, which is wonderful for sore muscles!

Here is a video of Duncan Ridge Road before the gravel dumps. Note that we haven't had any rain for over a week, so there shouldn't be any mud.

Ken, any chance we can set up a cam on a tripod in a corner and let folks take their own pictures?  I've got a small Canon and tripod.  We could just set the timer and folks could push the button and step in front of the cam.

I suppose...unless they're in the witness protection program.

Morning's first coffee's almost done and even though I live only 3.5 hrs from Ellijay, I'll pull out at 6am central time to take the long way there...joining Dave Smith in Adairsville GA; backroads riding with lunch at Vanzants Grocery;  arriving Ellijay around 3pm eastern time.  jb

I'm out. I seem to have a muscle strain on my left side, near my kidney, so it's not a cracked rib. A few minutes ago I had a violent sneeze (common for me at this time of year) and nearly passed out from the pain. I don't want to risk that happening while on two wheels, or to aggravate it further bouncing over rough ground.

I'm still interested in meeting with folks for lunch at Foothill Grill in Dahlonega at 11:00 tomorrow, and can escort you (by car) from there to the beginning of the FS fire road network.

Damn, Selden, I'm sorry to hear that.  But you're on for lunch!  Rest up and get to feeling better.

Just found out my 7GS has a problem that can't be fixed for 6 weeks.  Oh well, the Porsche is full of fuel so I'll be driving.  Oh the shame!  Selden, if your really doing lunch let me know time and place and I'll see you there.

Glorious day on the Cherohala, Wayah Road and Russell B. Russell 2x.  Great riding companions.  Mike Barksdale on point on Mark Makita following.  Sorry for the first minute or so but don't have my editing s/w on my laptop.

Spectacular day of riding topped off with lunch in Helen with Mark Makita, Phil and Mike & Dyanne Barksdale.  Suches, RBRussell, Brasstown Bald Tower, Wolf Pen Gap, Suches (again) and great back roads to Ellijay to avoid slabbing on 76.  I think we'll see Mark again.  He's such a steady rider.

From the eyes of a first-timer....  I loved the fact that this is a riding group, and want to thank those who worked to organize this event, and to those who made this old first-timer feel part of the group...(at my age, there aren't many first times anymore..:3::5188:  JB

I misspelled Mark's surname.  It's Mikita, not Makita.

Where do people expect to eat breakfast be Sunday morning? My side seems to be mending (although that could change by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow), and I'm thinking I may be up for a solo ride to Ellijay for breakfast tomorrow, as I don't think I have enough reserve strength at this point to carry a passenger safely.

Of course, we could drive up in the car, but what's the point in that?
