As I wrote elsewhere, I tried both H1 (low-beam) and H7 (high-beam) LED headlights on my 2000 R1100S.  LED color was pretty good, but neither one was really as bright as I'd hoped for.  They were both much lower power than standard incandescents.

Next, I tried a 55W HID bulb (H7) and a 35W HID bulb (H1).  Both are cheap Chinese setups from Amazon (55W Ballast $18, H7 Bulb $12; 35W Ballast $10, H1 Bulb $12).  The H7 setup is nice & bright, good color, good coverage.  The H1 was kind of sketchy, plus it flickered. And I was concerned about bulb start-up, since you have a short illumination every time you turn on the bike, followed by a short off time while you crank the motor, followed by another start-up.  I believe that's not great for HID bulbs and ballasts.

So I ended up going with LED low beam and HID high beam.  This is a reasonably good combination, and the price is right.Empty.thumb.jpg.903dc1475343d549f76e04dba2b7aeb4.jpgH1.thumb.jpg.0334c9c8f886f0f7d86f58a95cccfd3d.jpgH7-HID.thumb.jpg.05d44083500ce964371f67f546ab47b5.jpgLeft.thumb.jpg.159ccbede2ada524d94b7a01515ac4a4.jpgRight.thumb.jpg.f22d2101d450737b105adcfab2ba0989.jpgInstall-L.thumb.jpg.73c201ac77efb5bbfbd90b722d771e94.jpgInstall-R.thumb.jpg.4ce287947c26cc96377032350d563c0a.jpg
