Some great situational awareness right here. And a true go/no go split second decision.

That was cool.  I am surprised his bike did not get nicked.

Her expression of gratitude was a joy to witness.

Yeah, a rush and good feeling all in one. The dude in the hi-viz at the purse drop point looked like a police officer?  Maybe not. :dontknow:

If it had been me I probably wouldn’t have realized what was happening (hey - I wonder why that guy is running down the road....) quickly enough to chase him, BUT if I had I’m SURE I would have forgot to put down the side stand!

Well that, and put it in neutral or shut down the motor, which was obviously done properly.  HA

Yep. Pretty sure I would have just let go of the clutch ...and then been knocked down as I tried to swing a leg over a lurching forward motorcycle.

...which all would have been quite a shock to my wife sitting on the back...

Good thinking and quick action by the rider.

I once recovered a purse in a similar fashion when I was ~28 or 29. I was across a 6 lane road at an intersection with my GF when a woman on the other side of the intersection started screaming "He stole my purse". At the tie I was running 5 miles a day so took off after him. I caught up to him in 2 blocks and said, "You never outrun me. I run 5 miles a day!" He took a left into a parking lot and stopped behind a dumpster. I though he was going to pull a gun. Instead, he threw the purse at me and ran off. The woman had $1200 in vacation money for the next day.

I don't think I ever told this story in public.

Thieves need to be careful who they're around.

"Members of Penn's Annenberg (Lunchtime) Running Group chased down a thief on campus last month, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported on Feb. 6.

The running club, which meets three times a week, assembled at the plaza on 36th and Locust Walk Jan. 9 when a man barreled out of Steinberg-Dietrich Hall and ran straight past them, followed by a second man who shouted for help and said his laptop and cell phone had been stolen. The members of the running club quickly took off after the suspect and eventually caught the thief.

Running club founder Kyle Cassidy, a digital design specialist in the Annenberg School for Communication, told the Inquirer that it took the group only 30 seconds to catch up to the suspect."
