So after her lesson she was asked if she could help with a birthday party at the stable. She loves doing that.

I'm sitting in my truck as they're giving the kids pony rides around the paddock. All of a sudden I hear a Ducati coming towards us hauling arse. (Great sounding BTW)

Anyway, he sees the kids and ponies and immediately pulls in the clutch and rolls by quietly.

Classy!

Sorry, the Duc was too quick, even off the power. :-)

We had a visitor stop in the station this morning. Richard Haines, 94 years. He was taken into the hospital a month or so ago and I think he wanted to stop in and thank the guys. Anyway, he was a Callman back in the 40's and he brought a bunch of old pics and a few old badges. I asked him about the gear they used back then, in particular self contained breathing apparatus. (SCBA) He chuckled and said a wet handkerchief. He then got a bit emotional and told me a story of a fire he went to using the handkerchief.

He said he rarely talked about this but for some reason that question struck a memory. A fire where a gas or kerosene heater exploded and caught the house on fire. There was a report of five children in a second floor bedroom, he climbed a ladder and dove through the window with his handkerchief to search for them. He found the crib and reached in and grabbed the baby, he said the child slipped through his hands as it's skin peeled off from the intense heat.  He passed the baby out the window and went searching for the other four. Richard said they were hiding under beds and behind furniture.

So, he rescued all five children but unfortunately they all died at the hospital. I understand why he got emotional.

He also served his country but I didn't press him on his experiences. The Purple Heart cap tells a bit of the story.

The Greatest Generation!

Yes they are. Across the street from me lives a 87 year old guy who moved in last year.

Found out he was in the Air force just after WW II in France. Was involved in the Berlin air lift

as a fuel specialist. Started a bike club on base with over 100 members. Had runs all over

the place. Came back and started dirt tracking and was good enough to earn a national #.

Rode Indians, HD's and more.  Moto cop here in Tulsa for 8 years.

Saw a picture frame in his garage with all motorcycles on it. Asked him about it and he said,

"those are all my old riding buddies,"  and with a soft voice ," they are all gone now."

He has some real good tales.

If you know one of the "greatest" talk to them as soon they all will be gone.

Old trucks are cool! Prices have gone a bit silly though with all the Discovery Channel hot rod shows telling us we need them. :/ Now, those memories, a visit or was the NE home at one time?

I had plans to ride up to Max BMW for their open house today. :revit:

But it's sunny and warm and apparently somebody had vacation time to take so I'm at work checking engine oil & coolant levels.  Probably better off. :dontknow:

These horses are like big puppy dogs.  The boy had them trotting after him,....he started running and those to just trotted behind for a bit.

No, I’m on the other side.

The Conejo Valley.

That’s the 101/Kanan in the background.

The hills are amazingly lush due to the abundance of this Winters rains & much of the sage brush incinerated by the Woosley Fire.

The  Phoenix rising:clap:
