Cat on top is Baxter is going on 12.  Minx going on 5 below him1101736687_20180404_0119(Medium).thumb.JPG.93ae7d5e122b88b0cccbf05935fde588.JPG

Unusual for Minx, but once she actually got under the covers with her head on the pillow.  Never saw her do that before or since.  Luckily she stayed long enough for me to get a picture.2131876364_20180305_0102(Medium).thumb.JPG.fa69b574f5d0117059b3922a9c9885b6.JPG

Had to put my baby down three weeks ago.  She was 11 year old Rottie,...best dog I ever had.

And the stupid cat,.....well, it's toilet trained, he's 12 (and we can't wait for it to go).

Fantastic thread!  Here is Coco on the left, our 14 mo. old dark chocolate lab, and Chloe, our 13 year old black lab.  A transition is underway as we say hello and goodbye.

Sorry about your pup, Richard. If she had a happy 11 years, you can't ask for much more. Or in other words, you did good!

Now that's a giant Cat! Quick cat story, we had a stray we kept for almost 20 years, in that time we had a Camper for seven-ish of those years. Never a single mouse in the camper parked outside for all that time, the year the cat passed we had three in it. They are workers!

Crappy pictures but I took the little one and her dog Rex for a bit of protection training yesterday. The biggest eye opener was I have absolutely no clue how to properly train a dog.

edit..second & fifth pic is Kiley's dog Rex. You can see her watching on in the mirror. ;-)

While I don't know how to "properly" train a dog, my Rottie would "listen" via just hand signals.  I could have her sit, stay, lay down, stop and come to me with just hand signals.  We could even "shoot" her with a finger gun and she'd "fall down" (actually, it was a slow lay down and it took three shots (she was a big dog)).

Repetition and treats, along with letting the dog do what they do naturally and while doing so, giving verbal and hand commands.  The "shooting" took her less than 20 minutes to learn,.....it was a nifty trick when people would show up.

When my daughter was 10, the dog was about 120lb (big for a female rottie), my daughter would walk her the mile around the neighborhood alone.  Dog would heal properly and not tug the line.

McGruff is 13+ and doing great.

Pictures show him waiting for Beth, and at Cedar Key.

He hosts Friday night HH.

I have two rescue pups.  Tucker is a male Lab mix.  I'm not sure what else is mixed in there.  Casey is a female Newfie mix. Her mother is a Golden Retriever, and her father is a Newfoundland.

I love the coloring on your GSD.  It is much more interesting that B+T or black or white.  Of course I had one just like that from 3rd grade into college.

Of the 4 dogs we have had 3 of 4 had Rottie in them or in the case of our second dog was pure bread Rottie. All were rescued from the shelter, or soon to be in the shelter. Because of the Rottie part they have a strong need to please, if a bit stubborn about it.  All 3 quickly learned hand signals and didn't stray or run away. Rottie DNA is good stuff in a mutt.

Our 3rd dog Eddie takes the gold standard position to compare all future dogs to.  He was a Hound Rottie mix and was a joyful gentle dog who never barked unless there was a darn good reason to. From day one he never needed to be on a line or leash and only wore a collar to carry his tags.  It broke our heart to have to put him down about 2 years ago.

This pic is when he was about 6 years old

Our current dog Toby is a hound mix which we saved from the shelter about 1-1/2 years ago. He's now 20 months and just figuring it out. He's super smart, but we think the other part is some type of Terrier so he can be a bit of a rouge. No Rottie though and for the first six months I was calling him Tyrannis, but now seems to be settling...some.   The jury is out if he will ever live up to the Eddie standard.  Toby is full of himself and thinks he is all that and a bag of chips!  He has responded to hand commands, but with a lot a sassy back talk.
