MotoNews
Published in: Bikes International Rally-Raid Racer, and friend of ADVMoto, Jenny Morgan (JennyDakar.com) was quick to point out on our Facebook page the similarity between Honda’s CB125X / CB125M concepts and the new 2019 CB300R, showcased at the 2018 EICMA show in Milan, Italy. They appear to have the same or similar frame, which could mean the CB125X is a first of many new adventure and dual-sport bikes to come from Big Red. We’ve been speculating that the CRF250L was due for an update, considering it uses an older engine based off the 2011 CBR250R sport bike. The CBR250R is no longer available to America, as it’s been replaced with a 286cc CBR300R. Should Honda decide to update their small-displacement dual-sports, we expect the new engine will be the heart of the CRF300L Rally. We could expect to see three versions of the CRF300 – a dual-sport bike with CRF-R bodywork, a rally inspired version to resemble a small Africa Twin, and a supermoto similar to the CB125M concept. Of course, all we can do at this point is speculate and make wishes. ADVMoto thoroughly enjoyed our time with our own CRF250L Rally Replica Project. Its upgraded suspension by Racetech helped to negate some of the weight issues with the bike, but even after upgrades, the underpowered 249.6cc engine needed a bit more power for the bike to be dynamic. The new 286cc engine will be a welcome upgrade to the “entry-level” Honda dual-sports. Honda, if you’re listening, make a CRF300L, CRF300L Rally, and CRF300M, then bring fuel injection, a sixth gear, and some of this gnarly styling to the XR650L. Pretty please?
