This is what I found when I removed the fuel pump & sender unit. No fuel level sender, and a wired up fuel pump. Replaced the fuel filter, bike starts fine. No chance to test ride, but what is going on? The previous owner was a clueless clot, but this is just weird.AF1QipPl5qU70M_wNbp5YJ1eHjDCXW0kYRe9cim8sjBnlrIp3kxlJgky384md8iwlMI4oQ?key=QmZkVVEzRzR2TEtBeEl4bHNIRk41Zm0zeFdNQkd3

Strange indeed.

The assembly is typically a press/friction fit so I guess the previous owner felt it was feeling a bit loose and rather than replace it with a new one, he went for the equivalent of duct tape. It doesn't seem very effective or reliable and would be prone to vibrate off in my opinion.

Reminds me of home construction where some builders believe "what is hidden in the wall or cieling is always fine when you don't know its there".

The fuel pump was replaced at one time, thought I saw a 2010 date on it. The fuel filter looks original. Pulling the tank and changing the pump is a pain, why not do the filter?

It also appears that the wiring was replaced at some time. The soy based wires deteriorate over time and the insulation crumbles. The aftermarket fuel pump replacement is smaller than the original if you don't get the original. The safety wire will hold up just fine in fuel.

Morning Emfour

It looks like the pump rubber isolator is missing (goes between bottom of pump & the support bracket.

You also might want to replace those worm-gear hose clamps as those are not high pressure FI rated. Over time those hose clamps will dig into the rubber hose, loosen up, then the hose will pop off (usually far from home & in the middle of the night). If that happens then it is a definite walk-home.
