San Jose CA: need non-dealer mechanic, 2005 R1200RT

Hi,

Long-time member here, but rare poster and haven't visited here in a while...

I live near San Jose and am looking for a good mechanic for my 2005 R1200RT. Any suggestions on who to go to, or where to go, or how to search/look? I've tried Yelp and other searches, without success.

I used to live in San Francisco and there was a great mechanic there named Dave Gardner and his shop was Recommended Service. Dave was a certified BMW motorcycle mechanic who went out on his own and his work was excellent and his prices reasonable. Dave and Recommended Service closed down long ago but I'm looking for something similar in/near San Jose.

I want to avoid the dealerships and their higher-than-necessary costs.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks Pat. Things have been really busy at work right now, long days, so maybe that can be for later when things settle down.

I did more searching around and found this place:

— Airhead Adventure, 635 Bair Island, Redwood City

— gMap link: https://goo.gl/4m7bwL

— 415-205-7829

— Website: https://airheadadventure.com

Links are safe, I just created the shortened gMap link and C & P'd the site link.

I drove by it last night around 9pm after work (I work nearby, in San Carlos), just to take a look. It's a small shop, from what I could tell from the outside when it was all closed down. There were about 10 bikes parked outside, all BMWs.

It looked promising and I plan to stop in when they're open for a quick visit.

Anyone have any feedback about that place?

Talk or text Shawn at the Blair Island shop (650-346-7349). Have used him a number of times and he's super experienced and honest. They have another website in addition to the one you reference. It's: https://www.theundealership.com. His partner, Greg does mostly airhead restoration work.

Years ago, (many years ago), I remember another place in Redwood City. I think it was called Tim Weber Sign of the Twins, or something like that. I never had work done there, but I did stop in once just for a quick visit to say hello. Searching quickly, I can't find it. I think he may have retired, like Dave Gardner. Anyone remember that place?

EFT- is there an issue with the bike? or are you collecting information for future use?

Not that it really matters- but if there is something with the bike maybe we/I could help.

I was on a great '05 for about 8 years...

Naah, it was stored for a couple of years. Dead battery, fluids need changing. I just need to get it running again.

And then for the future, I'll want a good mechanic for it.

I did stop in and the shop looks exactly like what I'm looking for, a small, BMW-focused place with several bikes there in the queue. I have an appointment with Sean.
