New Brake Bleeder

99RTVET

Recommended Posts

I have had it with my leaky Harbor Freight bleeder, so I decided to try this $13.99 bleeder from China on eBay. Anyone else had luck with this?

You really don't need a power bleeder for the brake circuits on the R1100RT. Still can't see the image.

For some reason I could not edit my original post to fix the picture. Here is the pic. I plan to use it to remove fluid from reservoir when replacing the brake pads ect or to work on my other vehicles. Getting ready to replace the back brake pads.

Morning Donbmw

Strange as picture shows up fine for me. But I am a member of Imageshack so maybe the original poster has public view turned off or something like that.

In any case, not much to see as all the picture shows is a small plastic bottle with a venturi effect type vacuum block on the top.

Personally I'm not a big fan of venturi effect vacuum bleeders as years ago I was involved with the clean up after an air pressure to vacuum (venturi effect) vacuum

bleeder blew up & blew brake fluid all over a number of show cars. Not really sure what happened but my guess is the venturi outlet iced up & plugged the outlet

so full line pressure (150+ psi) blew the lower brake fluid filled bottle apart. (ruined a lot of vehicle paint that day)

I've not used one of those, but it seems like it is a sledge hammer of a tool when a tack hammer is all that is needed. When I first had my '99RT I was able to talk my lovely wife into helping by pumping and holding the brake lever while I did the bleed off of the old fluid. When she tired of that because she realized after the second time that the job always took more than the 5 minutes I promised her it would, I went to a mighty vac and that has worked well for a one man job without installing speed bleeders. The mighty vac was awesome when I put new brake lines on the '99 as it was an air free install on the first try.

I had thought about putting a TV on a stand in front of the bike tuned into QVC, which I'm sure it would have kept my wife interested in being my helper, but then I realized the mighty vac would be way cheaper than the QVC bill:grin:
