marty mayer
Have been running odyssey batteries for the last 15 years. Have always had a Deltran battery tender on them when not being ridden. Never had a problem, until now. The Odyssey in my GS is a little under two years old. Last one lasted six years. Went to start the bike a couple of times over the winter, usually to low to start. Contacted Odyssey they said a battery tender will not float at a high enough rate, thus maintaining the battery in a not fully charged state. Thus causing the battery to sulfate. Sounds like they are going to honor the warranty on this battery and replace it. Looking around on line for a tender that is compatible with the Odyssey. Doesn't seem to be much out there. Start reading about this float voltage vs that voltage, charge amps, My head is spinning. Just wondering what other people are using. Thanks Marty Link to comment
mnTwin
Have you seen the approved battery charger list? http://www.odysseybattery.com/documents/ODYSSEY_approved_12V_chargers.pdf I use one of the CTEK chargers listed. Only had it for two years so far--works great. Link to comment
The Rocketman
Same exact thing happened to me with three bikes, 3 Odyssey PC-680 batteries and three Battery Tenders. Now have 3 CTEK MUS4.3 chargers. Highly recommended by Odyssey and Ctek. Have had no issues since using them. They have a very high float maintenance charge and have had ZERO issues with CanBus, so don't let anyone scare you. The "Snowflake" mode is what makes this thing work. Shop around for prices... https://www.amazon.com/CTEK-56-864-Automatic-Battery-Charger/dp/B006G14FK8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1488391520&sr=8-1&keywords=ctek+mus4.3 Also the Ctek MUS4.3 has a re-conditioner mode to de-sulphate your battery and bring it back to life. It may not be dead; just needin' some Ctek lovin'. Edited March 1, 2017 by The Rocketman Link to comment
kbd
Another possibility are the Pulsetech products detailed here: http://www.pulsetech.net I've used the XP100-C product now for several years on my 2012 RT, starting when the original battery began to fail. As touted, it did save the original battery now going into its sixth year. I've also used it to "recover" another motorcycle battery and a car battery with outstanding results. http://www.pulsetech.net/XC100P-Xtreme-Charge-12V-Battery-Maintenance-Charger-Desulfator-7346.aspx On the RT, I used the XP100 as the everyday maintainer now, going direct to the battery via a Powerlet socket to a Centech fuse block to the battery. No issues. They are nicely priced (or so I think!): https://www.amazon.com/Pulsetech-Xtreme-Auto-Charger-Black/dp/B00BPF0Y64 Edited March 2, 2017 by kbd Link to comment
