roadscholar
Terry, can't see the photo.. Edit, has anyone eaten there, if so how is it? Edited December 11, 2016 by roadscholar Link to comment
terryofperry
I've eaten there a few times, cafes are very subjective, difficult to say if others will like it. Sorry about the picture, will try again. Terry Link to comment
roadscholar
Thanks Terry, I was asking because Davisboro is the only town (and it ain't much) we ride thru on day 3 of a five day dirt route and didn't have a restaurant 4 or 5 years ago. We settled for fried chicken at the convenience store on the north end of town, not bad but knowing there's a restaurant now is fantastic. Just hope they can survive and stay open. Here's some other ideas for ya'll, albeit not middle-ish, Dawn's Pantry in Screven and Heavy's BBQ south of Crawfordville (great roads all around it). Too bad Foster's in Louisville isn't open on weekends, really good food there! And another, Coleman Lake Restaurant east of Wadley, I took about 25 Beemer riders there 10 or 12 years ago and everyone liked it. Link to comment
terryofperry
Thanks Bill, and thanks for the suggestions, I ride around Screven and Wadley so next time I will try them. I hope the Hitchin Post makes it also, as you stated, Davisboro is a railroad depot and not much more. I've been there three times with a couple riders on this board, always customers in there. It doe have a Post Office so that is a plus. Be well. Terry Link to comment
SavannahCapt
I've eaten at the Hitchin Post twice and had a good blue plate special each time. At the rick of jinxing myself again. I'm in. Link to comment

Kinsley
Really Maybe you can keep heading South for Cedar Key the next weekend Link to comment
Indy Dave
Working on a plan in case of weather - trailering into TN if it's bad up here - then unloading and riding. Hoping to entice EricInIndy or 6th gear to accompany - this would be right up their ally. Ceder Key is very inviting, but staring the 23rd, I'll be out of commission for a while. Link to comment
Bernie
Dave, that would be great to see you again. Link to comment
Indy Dave
Weather looks like it might well cooperate - if nothing else from mid to lower KY on down. what time is lunch? Link to comment
terryofperry
11:30 A.M. Dave. Would that be 700 miles to lunch? Chris (Lawnchairboy) met us at Maebob's in Irwinton once, you may be traveling further. Hoping you can make it. How is the shoulder? Terry Link to comment

Yes, it's just under 700 miles. Given the time restraints I think I'll have to deal with, right now I'm planning on trailering to maybe Blairsville, GA and making a interesting route down leaving from there at dawn or before if needed. Open to suggestions. It's all about the quality of the ride! Going to run the plan by the wife tonight. Edited January 6, 2017 by workin' them angels Link to comment
terryofperry
Ken or one of the Atlanta riders would be better for routing suggestions, I am not familiar with the Blairsville area and I am several hours southwest of the Cafe myself. You picked a great place to layover, the Helen/Suches area has such fabulous riding you may not make it to Davisboro in time for Dinner let alone lunch, . If it is a go for you please post up your route, maybe someone can intersect with you on the way to the cafe. Good news on the shoulder, keep improving. Terry Link to comment

Indy Dave
We have authorization for lift-off! Working on details - Wife may take a day off and drive down and spend Sat on her own somewhere, so bets are off right now for where I'll land prior to two wheeling. A good ride down, lunch wtih great folks and a better ride back. Link to comment

That sounds like my routes, at least it is never far to the house and most folks that ride with us get lost in there back yard anyway. Plus with memory loss it is always a new route, no matter how of you ride it. LOL Link to comment

Indy Dave
Things looking good from the Hoosier. The wheels will set in motion Thursday, and I'll you all for breakfast on Sat! The more that things change . . . After that optimistic statement yesterday, the skies continue to get wetter all over and I don't envision making the trek on down to Davisboro. Another strike out! ......... The more they stay the same . . Right now it looks like I'll ride the skyway from Tellico Plains to Robinsville, over to Helen and back to Tellico on Friday. And leave it at that. Hate to get so close, one of these days it'll work out . Link to comment

terryofperry
We had an amazing lunch today with a "challenging" ride home. My apologies to Ron, the pic I had of him was too blurry to post, I will do better next time. I did get his food plate though. Just after this: Found this: And just around that corner: It got pretty nasty, that blue dot was me. I think Bernie had it worse as he was on that edge a long time. Thanks to Ron, Bernie and the cafe for a wonderful meal and our kind waitress for taking this picture. Looking forward to February. Terry Link to comment

Bernie
Thank you guys for braving the weather and having lunch with me. I had a nice warm ride up to Davisboro and a good lunch. Temperature was 73F after lunch and I decided to layer up with my fleece, just in case I should get caught in the rain. Well, less then 5 miles into the ride home it started. I came around a corner and rode into a wall of rain, that was blowing from all kinds of directions. The waves of rain hitting my face shield reminded me of a front loading wash machine at high water level. Also the temperature dropped to 60F. After a while I decided it will be wiser to get on main roads, instead of small back roads. North of Baxley on US1 I had to dodge a tree laying across 2 lanes. When I got to Blackshear, I finally outran the storm. By the time I got to Jax (5PM), it had warmed to 87F and I was drying up nicely. I have driven and ridden through a few storms or frog straggler rains, but this one was a bad one. I am, as always just amazed and very happy to have been on this bike (2007 R1200RT). I never felt insecure or worried about the conditions and really had a good time riding in this mess. After 175,000+ miles this bike is still very satisfying to ride and own. Also a mayor thumb up too the Pirelli Angel GT tires, as the last thing you want to be concerned about is traction, as you are trying to figure out where the road is. SavannahCapt
The storm was at my back and chased me all the way home. The weather reports said it was moving 50-65mph. Pulled into my shop just as the rain started. Within a few minutes a tornado hit 6 miles away. Great fun. Good food and friends. Link to comment
