Dann
My rear speed sensor is damaged. Not the sensor itself but the part that holds the screw to the wheel. Is there a way to fix it? (Epoxy?) I could also get a used one from Beemer Boneyard. If I replace it, is it a simple swap or will the ZFE need to be reprogrammed by the dealer or can a GS-911 do it? Link to comment
lkraus
Cures black, so the repair is not obvious. Don't use Kwik-Weld, it is gray, and weaker. Clean the sensor well to remove oil and grease so the epoxy sticks. If the brass insert is loose, I'd put a thin coat on it, reinsert it in the plastic and squeeze most of it out. If it is still tight, I'd just shape the epoxy to replace the missing plastic and put a little around the the lip where the brass and plastic meet, making sure the screw will still be able to create even pressure when tightened. You'll want to keep the part at room temperature for a day to let the epoxy cure completely, so it might be best to remove it and take it in the house. It is a swappable part, no programming needed to replace. How did the damage occur? Link to comment
Dann
I damaged it when I was putting it back after changing the FD oil. I did the FD maintenance many times and my bike only had the O-ring (No centering ring) When I took it apart this time for the maintenance there was a metal ring that was put by the dealer after the flange replacement. For some reason I lost that metal ring. When I reinstalled everything I put another one that I had which I thought was the same. The sensor was not seating properly and I thought that it needed to be tightened more. This is how I damaged it. What I find strange is that even though the parts catalog shows both an O-ring and a centering ring, the RepROM doesn't mention it in the procedure for installing the speed sensor. Also, in the JVB video there is only an O-ring and no centering ring on the speed sensor ??? BTW how far from the rear wheel does it connect to the bike? Is this connector easy to access? My copy of the RepROM (the one that requires online activation) does mention the centering ring, but only for bikes with IABS Gen 2. Earlier bikes, with the whizzy brakes (IABS Gen 1), only use an O-ring. Perhaps the demo bike in the JVB video is one of these. Link to comment
dirtrider
Evening Daniel You have an early RepRom (shows pre 8/2006 procedure). The below if from an official BMW dealer service manual. Link to comment
Dann
Thanks D.R. Everything makes sense now. I'll see if I can fix it with JB Weld and if not I'll install a new one. Link to comment
