I need a new helmet. My current one is a Scorpion Exo modular.

I read that it's DOT only and not SNELL and that SNELL doesn't certify any modular helmets.

Still on the fence if to get another modular or a full face.

that is 100% correst. There are NO modular helmets that are Snell approved

To each his own I prefer a half helmet ,dot approved ( Scorpion EXO-100) and white . Full face to me is to hot and restrictive you might as well be riding in a car.

Does that mean none were tested, or that all failed?

There's conflicting information about that. Some, including Snell, say that they have not tested any flip up/modular helmets. You can see Snell saying that on their FAQ page:

http://www.smf.org/helmetfaq#aWhyNotFlip

But then if you go their search page:

http://www.smf.org/cert

and put in "motorcycle" and select "modular" you will see this helmet:

http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/motorcycle-helmet/ls2-ff394/

and one other that is, according to WebBikeWorld, hard or impractical to get in the US.

Heard a talk from a guy that's in the helmet industry, as a consultant I think, a week ago. He said that the Snell penetration test hits the modulars where the mechanism is for the flip down sun screen, and that because of that structure, they won't pass. There was another issue with the penetration test, but I don't recall specifically what it was.

That being said, I wear a modular, a Schuberth C3 Pro.

Speaking as an ER doctor, former paramedic, former ER nurse, I've seen the results of motorcycle accidents a few more times than the average rider.

Whether modular or full-face, wear a helmet with full, facial protection. Half- and 3/4 helmets simply don't do the job.

The Sharp tests show side impact to be the weak spot on most modulars.
