Steve1962
Picture the scene ..........it's Open Evening at the large Secondary School ( Circa 1100 students) where I am Site Manager - everything is ready, we've managed to get the prospective parents parked in a sensible manner without incident and the evening is underway.............so I take a leisurely stroll back towards my office for a well earned break, and I'm approached by one of the Caretakers who takes me to one side and asked me to follow him to one of the classrooms being used for tonight ...........and there I find a table placed outside the classroom, covered in a nice tablecloth.........what's that I can smell..........smoke............:e yepop:.........two teachers are in the classroom talking happily to parents, whilst on the table outside the classroom are two large candles...which are lit.........and directly below a smoke detector ......FFS...........so, ever the diplomat, I casually extinguish them only to be challenged by one of the teachers.........who promptly incurred my displeasure in the most polite manner in which anyone has ever incurred my displeasure. Rant over..............and breathe........... Link to comment
DaveTheAffable
Well done... especially if you were as gracious as you say. Generally, even though prohibited in some places, burning candles may not set off alarms. When blown out they can produce quite a bit of smoke. Un-attended candles in a school setting are especially bad. When one office worker blew out the 5 or 6 candles on the bookshelf in their cubicle... adjacent to the smoke detector... as they were leaving work for the day... alarms sounded. Not me... but damhik. Link to comment
tallman
Thought this was going to be about England's ban on smoking in cars if there are children in it. I quit teaching Art 3D becasue I was having to use a camping stove to make papier mache. Link to comment
