fatbob
I don't find the FD ratio for the new RT on the BMW site, or in Mags. Anybody know what it is? My GS is 2.91. I'd like longer legs on the bike. Link to comment
Troppo
It is higher than the GS - not sure by how much though. Link to comment
lkraus
EDIT: Bad info here! Corrected info below. 2006 ratios from my RepROM, 2010 from a Motorcyclist review, 2014 from the BMW press release: R1200RT gearing | Overall ratio 2006 2010 2014 |2006 2010 2014 Primary 1.824 1.737 1.65 | | 1st 2.277 2.375 2.438 |10.882 10.808 11.706 | 2nd 1.583 1.696 1.714 | | 3rd 1.259 1.296 1.296 | | 4th 1.033 1.065 1.059 | | 5th 0.903 0.939 0.943 | | 6th 0.805 0.848 0.848 |3.847 3.859 4.072 | Final 2.62 2.62 2.91 | Drive | Gear ratios given here in BMW Motorcycle Magazine for the 2013 GS are the same as the 2014 RT. AlanS.
2.75 is right out of the 2014 Rider's Manual on page 157. Link to comment
lkraus
I stand corrected. Also found 2.75 listed on some dealers' web sites ( http://www.bmwmotorcyclesofriverside.com/inventory/v1/2014/BMW/By-Body-Type/Motorcycle/Tour/R-1200-RT/Base-Riverside-California---1548211 ) Parts lists at RealOEM.com also seem to show the GS at 2.91 and the RT at 2.75. Seems odd that BMW would not verify the facts before publishing their press release. 2006 ratios from my RepROM, 2010 from a Motorcyclist review, 2014 from RealOEM.com: R1200RT gearing | Overall ratio 2006 2010 2014 |2006 2010 2014 Primary 1.824 1.737 1.65 | | 1st 2.277 2.375 2.438 |10.882 10.808 11.062 | 2nd 1.583 1.696 1.714 | | 3rd 1.259 1.296 1.296 | | 4th 1.033 1.065 1.059 | | 5th 0.903 0.939 0.943 | | 6th 0.805 0.848 0.848 |3.847 3.859 3.848 | Final 2.62 2.62 2.75 | Drive | Link to comment
dirtrider
Afternoon fatbob I don't know if BMW is still doing it on the wetheads but on the hexheads/camheads the gear ratio was stamped on the bottom of the drive (on the bottom flat in the pivot bearing area) If found, just divide the smaller number into the larger number for gear ratio.
