Haynes
The butterfly valve fitted in the exhaust between the cat converter and the muffler is cable operated from an actuator. What does this do? Under what conditions does it operate? Link to comment
TEWKS
This was the late Mr. Ash's explanation on the subject. http://www.ashonbikes.com/forum/exhaust-valves-what-are-they Pat Link to comment
Haynes
Thank you TEWKS. The explanation on the referred site is basically in line with my observations. I removed the muffler and exhaust for an extensive clean and noticed that the butterfly valve was in the normally open position. I wondered whether the valve was related to improved performance, noise reduction or both. It seems both. Link to comment
Huzband
If you remove it, you will notice a distinct drop in midrange performance. Link to comment
Haynes
I have no intention of removing it but temporarily disconnecting the cables might be a good experiment for another day. Link to comment
