PAS
I found this video on youtube that shows a nice small FM radio installed on an 1150RT. I have the radio package but no radio. I think this small unit would work great for my needs. Question is, how does this power the speakers? The poster sounds like an Aussy and he never posts any replies to questions asked. dan cata
What that guy has is a small radio. Also, he has the amplification part somewhere else. You cannot power such large speakers and get that volume from that small device. I guess you could fit such a unit behind the dash, but the work involved would be too much for the effect you get. I guess it also depends on what do you want from the bike. If you cruise at speeds under 100 kms/hr, a radio would be fun to have. Personally, I ride my RT hard, I cruise at ~ 150 kms/hr, speed at which, music is not that important for me. I would not hear it anyway and I need to pay attention to the traffic around me. Dan. upflying
I installed this Jensen on my bike. The speakers are behind the grills on the dash. http://www.amazon.com/Rotary-JHD910-Jensen-Heavy-duty-Jhd910/dp/B0013LH7J2 http://bmwsporttouring.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=563394&Searchpage=1&Main=50963&Words=jensen&Search=true#Post563394 http://bmwsporttouring.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=677868&Searchpage=1&Main=60770&Words=jensen&Search=true#Post677868 Link to comment
PAS
I found that the small FM tuner has a built in amp but I have no idea how I would wire it into the existing harness that is preinstalled. The bike came with the radio kit but the carrier box and harness plugs that were attached to it have been removed. I didnt want to lose the storage space in the radio compartment so this small unit looks like the ticket for my needs. The unit has wires only no plug of any kind. I will have to do my homework to see if I can do it before I think of buying it. Link to comment
upflying
No plugs means you have to hard wire it. Best way to wire accessories is with a small fuse block wired to the battery. This keeps aftermarket stuff independent of the bike circuits. Link to comment
Skywagon
Bob..do you recall what speakers you used? I see references in other threads to David Spears speaker boxes but negative google. Link to comment
upflying
It's been a few years since I installed the speakers. IIRC, they are standard round 3" or 4" automotive stereo speakers. I think the cones are water proof too. The sound is ok for low speed riding but I can't hear them at freeway speeds. The Jensen radio has a headphone jack highway use. I installed them where the communication speakers were installed when my bike belonged to the CHP. Link to comment
Twinsig
Ive recently seen factory speakers on ebay. Link to comment
dan cata
I think that the speaker size is standard, the only difference being that the OEM's are water proof. Dan. Link to comment

PAS
Can anyone point me to a 2003 R1150RT wiring diagram that shows the speakers, power and ground wire/colors? Link to comment
