midatlanticcycle Posted January 29, 2013 Share Posted January 29, 2013 not being an expert in all that is BMW...just an avid rider and owner who does most all of his own maintenance...i stumbled upon something today that might be quite useful if you ever have a battery problem on the road and your BMW calls for the 51913 battery size. there are over 700 Harley-Davidson dealers worldwide and probably another similar amount of independent outfits who service and stock parts and batteries for Softails. most all Softails and assorted big-twins use a YTX20HL-BS battery. the Y for Yuasa and the H for high performance sealed. it matches up virutally precisely to the 51913 in both terminal placement and size. it is 3/4 inch shorter and 1/4 inch wider. length is identical. with a bit of a twist the stock cables match right up to the terminals. just something to keep in mind in an emergency if you can't find the 51913 and a battery store or H-D dealership is close by to where you are.
