roundy
Ok, so I really need to do this on my RT, I can't put it off any longer! Are there any decent guides out there? Also, the part you used to be able to get from BMW to screw into the ABS unit is no longer sold - so what are the alternatives? Or, can someone in the UK lend me one if you have it?? Thanks in advance! Link to comment
Albert
Hi roundy, I see from your profile you have a 2006 RT so I'm assuming it's the power assist brakes you're wanting to bleed. If that's the case (I also have a 2006) I have several documents I've found that describe the procedure. If you PM me your email I can send them to you. Link to comment
roundy
Thanks Al, yes it's a 2006 - I'll PM you my address. What did you end up doing to keep a "head" of fluid in the module? Link to comment
Dundee387
Get some speed bleeders.... Link to comment
Boffin
I have a filler made from a plastic funnel and some self-amalgamating tape (from a Halfords hose-repair kit). I simply wound the tape around the base of the funnel until it was slightly bigger than the top of the reservoir and screwed it in. Ensure you use paper towels around the ABS unit to catch any spillage. Once complete, flush the area liberally with water - this will clear away any residual/spilt brake fluid. As for speed-bleeders, I would council against using them. You can reach all the bleed nipples with ease and I have seen an ABS block with it's corner cracked off by use of speed-bleeders. Ken H.
Speed bleeders are definitely one of those love ‘em or hate ‘em things, I’m firmly in the hate ‘em camp. With all the thread leaking challenges with them, they’re more trouble than they’re worth IMHO. Link to comment
w2ge
I too am in the "HATE EM" camp re: speed bleeders.. Love using the MityVac. Link to comment

Andy Thanks for the tip....did you get a funnel that had a similar diameter then...? Link to comment
Boffin
I just pinched a 6-inch funnel from the kitchen... The tip had a diameter of about 1/3 inch. Andy Link to comment

Boffin
You can get the funnel here: BeemerBoneyard The OP is in the UK - the postage from the US makes that a pricey item... Andy Link to comment
