By "similar" I mean motorcycle tyres whose sidewalls had a very high degree of three axis flexibility to dramatically increase the tyre "stamp" on the road and yet were rigid enough to be comparable to a contemporary tyre in terms of handling, riding comfort etc. Don't ask for details because I wasn't given many more than these. Colin Edwards privately tested a racing bike fitted with 16" tyres using this technology and advised against further development, hence the project was stopped. It's rumored the project required so many resources it was the cause for Michelin's debacle in the MotoGP class a few years back. Link to comment
