New 2005 R1200RT owner with shock issue

I just bought a 2005 R1200RT this Sunday and love the bike. It only has 20000 miles on it and came well farkled with top case, Russell day long, engine guards and aftermarket windscreen.

The bike does not have ESA and has the manual preload adjuster. I will occasionally go two up and checked the setting on the rear shock. One graduation is displayed.

When I try to turn the knob nothing happens and it appears to be stipped. I have even tightened the phillips screw and turning it does not move up or down. It looks like someone in the past used some channel locks or pliers since the plastic is "scarred."

Has this happed to anyone else?

Can I remove the cap to adjust?

Is one graduation from the bottom a good setting for going two-up?

Thanks for any help

You can indeed remove the cap. The real crux of the issue is what you find behind it. Stripped adjuster shaft splines, stripped cap or it all turns but the link to the shock isn't working.

Ken,

Thanks for the reply. I actually called a well respected local shop and they also indicated that adjusting it is no longer an option.

With only one graduation showing I think it is well set-up for two up riding (somewhat stiff). I think it is fine for now. I may decide to upgrade the shocks at a later time.
