a question on similarities of 1200's

Being new to the 1200, I had an 03 1150, I'm not sure of the overall similarities between hex heads and cam heads. I realize I won't have the fuel strip problem and have twice as many cams, but is there good info in the hex head forum that pertains to our bikes, too? Some other sites don't differentiate between the two, and at this site there seems to be much activity there...

I appreciate any help here, as I wouldn't want to read or worry about problems improvements, etc, that aren't relevant to our bikes.

I know this may sound silly to some, but accepting unnecessary info as fact can really mess up the joy of ownership; expecting a problem that will never manifest is such a waste of time...tomp dd50

Afternoon dirtdreamer50

There are a lot of similarities between the hexhead & camhead. But also some major differences. The engines (main part) are basically the same as well as transmissions & final drives. The later camhead final drives had a vent added back in.

In fact during the early part of the camhead existence they were lumped in with the hexhead on this site also.

Even the early hexhead is slightly different then the later hexhead in certain areas.

Don't read too much into problems seen on the hexhead forum. A few do carry over to the camhead & the camhead has a few new ones of their own.

Just post your problems & concerns on the camhead forum & get the LATEST info.
