What the heck happened with all of these banners and adds in everyones posts all of a sudden and my screen moving VERY slowly now.....SUCKS

One of the real pleasures of these forums was the absence of targeted advertisements. They waste space and, as has been mentioned, significantly slow down page loading. Have the policies of this web site changed recently? ARe we now accepting advertisements? How about an option in my User CP to block these ads?

ads are now showing in the threads as thin bars across the bottom of comments. this using safari mobile browser. never seen that intrusion before. seem to be all car ads. any fixes in mobile safari for this?

The ads can be seen in all browsers - we are looking at what has happened with a view to fix it. Ads are being fed from a google-based ad server and are targeted at each user. Viewing from my mum's computer I see ads for stairlifts!

We seem to have been hacked. This is not policy. It is unwelcome and criminal intrusion.

funny, I don't see them in chrome running ad blocker add on, just safari, haven't checked IE or firefox yet.

yes, both firefox and ie have the ads as well.

Why do I get ads for Harley Davidson and Viagra?

The add I was seeing came from google. I closed the add and clicked the tab to opt out, and cleared cookies and the adds are gone. Using Firefox 14.0.1

I'm going to merge this *lovely* thread into another, on the same topic. That thread was harder to note, as it was originally in the another forum, but has the unique title *Adds*

 

 

 

It appears that we aren't alone. As of late last night Admins on other forums are reporting the same problem.

We've attempted a fix. We'll see if it works. There's a global announcement in each forum where the admins can post updates. Check there for the latest....

 

As mentioned above, this is a new issue that's being reported on many discussion boards.

Just to update everyone:

 

Our resident genius, Matt (bakersdozen) has fixed the problem and we have implemented additional safeguards to prevent a recurrence. However, this problem arose out of a vulnerability in the UBB software, so we must await a permanent fix from the developer. In the meanwhile, we stand at the gate with a machete in hand, hoping to safeguard your browsing experience.
