Did anybody call the folks in Beatty yet and is there a date set? Trying to get my days off in for it.

When Mr. Duck hears the plea I believe he'll chime in. I asked him this the other day. I think an evening at McNally's on the Kern River Friday is in my plans. Beatty on Saturday.

Working this as we speak....(great minds think alike!)

There is a problem with a date.... there seems to be some kinda major bicycle race going on every weekend in DV during November except for Turkey day weekend, and I don't think we should be there during their events. (sounds like a recipe for a disaster!)

So I was gonna ask the collective here about the last weekend in October, 26,27 28th (I think)....and, as an added bonus, thats almost a full moon weekend!

So now that this is out, whattaya think?

(Oh yeah...This year the Friday ride there Will include Sherman pass...)

Pull the reins up there Don Cornelis... gotta check out the attached link. It's a great place to pedal and coast.

We'll need to pull another date out of the rabbits hat.

I'm up for it all, I hope.

There's currently nothing on the calendar to keep me away on any of those dates! And now that I know about it, I'm inclined to meet you more-northerners at McNally's!

I'm IN no matter what weekend!

Would prefer to avoid "pedal and coasters" if possible... :)

CRAP!!!

I'm glad that the pedal bike crowd has taken to riding DV....we know why

That's five weekends in a row the bicycle folks are gonna be there....

Am I the only one who thinks mixing bicycles and hoons is a bad idea?

Mebbe we should have that "Temecula Days" I heard about not that long ago...

Mr. Graydude to the white courtesy phone...

Oct 12-14 ?

Temecula is very nice but ya can't match the roads and scenery of DV...

I know January was the original time for this, but some of us remember 17 degrees in Pahrumph..... and the frozen fountain in Beatty......so this is the warm ride

Earlier is good. Still plenty of time to put in for the weekend off. As long as I have a place to sleep...

...Yep, Still IN!

I seem to recall catching up to bicycle racers in DV before. There weren't a heck of lot of them, and they were mostly around Furnace Creek. But that was only one instance.

OK fine, we'll have to hack out the October weather.

Is there room for a dozen motorbike hoons looking for rooms at McNalley's? This sounds like it might go large.

This might even work out as a Sherman Pass crossing...and Tioga on the way back.

I'm starting to get that warm feeling all over. Here we go!

No.

McNally's has 8 rooms. Unless you want one of the travel trailers.

But Corral Creek Resort seemed to be ok for any additional arrivals.

Paul Mihalka intends to be at McNally's on Sept 24, on his (ultimate) ride to Torrey.

Maybe that would be a better time for a McNally's rally.

And let me add my caution about Sherman Pass road and Nine Mile Canyon road. It was sandy as the others will attest up to Blackrock Station, then very rocky later. And it is 67 miles, Kern river road to 395.

I would very much like to go to Death Valley but I have to go to Mexico. I must.

Posted

Jeez, man just pissed on my cornflakes...

Knock yourself out in Mexico. If I had enough time, I might do a similar ride, but in the meantime I'll think about another go on the same Sherman road I did three weeks ago.

But this time I'll have enough time to bag one of those rib eye's and a beer like Bill had.

And say hello to folks I haven't seen in a while... And if one of those happens to be a gentleman from the southern coastal area of Oregon, he'll have a steak on me.

Oct 28th would be fine. I am not stressed about the bicyclists but is the hotel available?

Be careful there are more there than you think.

Longjohn plans on riding to the Monterey area Sept 7 to 9, so I'm planning on going along at least part of the way and having lunch at Phil's fish market on Sept. 8.

So maybe a few others from that area will show up.

Mid week...?

Cooler weather is better than the hot stuff.

No big deal to ride with cyclists, it's not like any of those rides draw thousands of riders.

Problem seems in securing hotel. Perhaps we could talk the Parks Services into letting us use Scotty's Castle for a few days. I have a contact name and number if you need one...

How does November 16-18 sound.....talked to Pat, the Exchange is wide open that weekend, and the bicycle event will be over in Stovepipe Wells that weekend.

And if any of you out of state folks wanna trailer here past the boring stuff I have secure parking space for tow rigs....PM me

I certainly should be 100% by the time this happens so I'm definately interested.

Sounds good to me. A little early to say in but the festivities are hard to miss. If I can remember to bring a small tub of hot fudge that the date farm can heat up to put in half way up in the shake that might just warm the throat from that icy shake, it might just make my day. We can call it the Carl shake. PS. Whip cream on top?

I should be good for that weekend!

It's not the cyclists who necessarily cause the problems. It can be cages who are avoiding them in corners. Just ask Bob from Joe's in April, he almost bit it.

Out. Have a good time folks. Eat steak for me too, plus a few beers. Don't get an awards.

Kinda disappointed. Thought we'd pull something together in Oct to see how it would be.

Big hole I'm my sched for Oct needs filling.

Not so much for Nov.

Works for me! So what night does that mean I should book at McNally's? Or should we wait until it gets close and see if Sherman Pass is still open?

Posted

November 18th works for me as well. I thought we had so much fun in Janruary in Wickenburg that would be the new DVD. What say you Tom? If not wide agrteement for Wickenburg, I can put together Temecula Days. Perfect time of the year to ride the back roads.

Posted

I am planning on hosting a Wickenburg 2 but we could do Temecula as well if there is a desire to alternate.

Tommy

Posted

we could eaily fit Temecula Days in between Wickenburg and Joe's NS. Something around March?

We'll tell FaceBook. They can prolly do maintenance on a few hundred servers if you are on the road : )

Late Feb or early March would be good for TDs.

So Mr. Duck, do we have a green light for the 16-18 in November? Is that the common consensus?

So are you locked into that November 16-18 date? I was hoping for October as there is a better chance of clear weather to go over the Sherman Pass.

Ummm, yeah. The 19th and 20th of Oct. would fit me fine :)

In if you guys wanna do an Oct thing.

Said it before, not trying to change tradition on the DVD pre-ride, but Oct makes for a good time frame before the main event in Jan and usually provides better weather.

If not this year, then maybe next year.
