longjohn Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 I ride to my brother's place in Pacific Grove at least once a year and I'll be taking the long way this time: PCH>23>126>150>33>58... Jose has indicated he wanted to come along, providing his business can get along without him. The brother's place is a 2 bedroom apt., so other's must stay at a motel. The Lover's Point Inn is close by, 3 min by car/bike. It'll be a long day riding up, so maybe a short day of riding on Sat, and zoom home on Sun. Maybe leave lax area by 7:30am on Fri, get to Ojai by 9:30am for those who might want to meet us there. There is a Chevron at 360 e ojai ave, or an Ojai Gas at 1124 Maricopa hwy just after the turn on to 33 from 150. Let me know who else might want to come along. Oh, Taft might be a little hot riding thru it but the coast can be chilly. For those who have never been to PG, the seascapes are spectacular. Monterey close by and so is Pebble Beach. On Sat I was thinking of trying to get to Skyline Blvd in the bay area as I haven't ridden the whole thing yet, and maybe the hunter liggett road somehow, possibly on sunday. Please chime in if you have any suggestions, especially for the return trip .
algover Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 I'll monitor this and see how it develops. I've wanted to do Nacimiento - Ferusson Rod for years and haven't quite gotten around to it (assuming that's what you mean by "hunter liggett road"). I might be able to come down from the north and join you.
Heyfrank Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 This is a really nice ride. Depending on work, yes I finally got some. I will try to do this. Fort Liggett is nice . I won't know until it is closer on calendar. You will have a great time. Bring your proof of insurance and drivers license the base will ask for it.
lopaca Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 and zoom home on Sun. and maybe the hunter liggett road somehow, possibly on sunday. Please chime in if you have any suggestions, especially for the return trip . Not really a question, and I don't know if you have ridden Nacimiento/Ferguson road before, but I have done that ride many times on many different routes. A few tips - have your proof of insurance, registration and driver's license ready to show as you enter onto the Fort property. One of our guys did not have his proof of insurance but sweet talked his way in. I don't know if they will turn you away without it. Also, they patrol the area heavily so take it easy with the speed. We got pulled over (not cited) for not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign. They were cool. I think they just wanted chat and check out the bikes. But you never know. Nacimiento/Ferguson is a very slow ride as it is so cury and on a Sunday you need to be very careful of the cagers. Not really a good route for wanting to "zoom home". In most places, that road is basically a one lane road with lots of blind curves, so use your horn and ride very defensively. It is spectacular especially once you get a view of the ocean. Ride safely and enjoy the ride.

CoarsegoldKid Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 There may have been a change in protocol at the Fort. I was through there a few weeks back on my bike and not only did I not have to show any ID or papers or anything I didn't see anyone there who would likely have wanted to see the papers. So go and have fun on the twisty road up or down. If I can maybe I join ya.
LBump Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 Sue and I went through the area, visited the Mission and then down to the Coast back in April after the N/S Ride. We didn't have to stop. Perhaps they're closing it...? Great ride down to the Coast. There isn't very much that is straight or level...Have a good ride!
longjohn Posted August 30, 2012 Author Posted August 30, 2012 Thanks Larry, and glad to see that you're posting pics. I'll be getting the Hyperlites shortly so expect to hear from me. . I think I found a killer price on pr3's locally. I'll take a look see this afternoon. Hey Joe hope to see you on that Sat. I was thinking of doing a loop out Carmel Valley Rd>rancho San Carlos rd>Robinson cyn rd>cvr>arroyoseco>Elm>central>101>jolon>hunter liggett>fergusen-nascimiento>1>PG
