Pierce Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 What is involved in replacing the oil filler assembly? Does the valve cover have to come of?
Boffin Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 The filler is held in place by the pressure of an O-ring. It just needs pulling out - I just hooked it out with my finger. If it is too tight for that however, it is best to remove the valve cover and drive it out from the inside. Andy
philbytx Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 I simply levered mine out with a screwdriver with tape around it. Easy peasy job, just make sure to line up the insert correctly.
eddd Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 I did mine without removing the cover. It was easier than I thought it would be.
Pierce Posted August 22, 2012 Author Posted August 22, 2012 Thanks guys! I have done this before but just wanted to make sure on the method of replacement. My memory of such things is not the best. Too much fun in college I guess. Mine is weeping and I'm heading for the track this weekend and don't want any tech inspection issues.
Neil Jones Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 suffering from my own oil leak around the filler, and following the suggestions above, I could not quite remove the plastic plug with a finger, but it pried out pretty easily with a flat blade screwdriver, prying gently until it moved, then prying around the circle. I was amazed at the sand and debris that clung to the inside O ring and the underside of the plastic housing. Amazing that this much stuff built up in the first 120K. But it was the first time I had an oil leak there so it was the first time it needed to be removed.
