Ride Like the Wind Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Bike is 02 1150RT with 80,000 miles. During a ride this week in a heavy rainstorm, the Escort sounded a low voltage warning. The voltage was reading 10.5v. I then noticed the red charging light was on. It would go out for a short period of time but come right back on. Pulled the front cover and the belt is tight and is turning the alternator when the motor is running. What is the next step or test? I would hate to pull the alternator if that is not the problem. If I do need to pull the alternator, can it be done without disconnecting the ABS box? Tony
Caerleon Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 If that was the voltage while it was running, you may have to replace the rectifier/brush pack that is on the top of the alternator. Tank off job im afraid!
chrisz Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Just guessing, but maybe the battery is old and not accepting a charge. Put a M-meter across the battery terminals with engine off. Then with engine on (2K RPM) to see if alternator is working.
