gordiet Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 Can someone tell me the size of the altenator pulley nut? I want to get the right size socket before I pull the cover off. I've always used a cresent wrench in the past but I always am missing some skin after I use one. Thanks.... GT
dirtrider Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 Afternoon gordiet What you working on? If a 1200RT then the nut is not a hex nut but an internal spline type deal (special spline type wrench). You also need a 10mm hex driver to hold the rotor shaft.
gordiet Posted August 13, 2012 Author Posted August 13, 2012 Sorry, 1200RT, When I have changed the belt on my 05 and 08 RT it has a hex MM nut on the shaft. GT
dirtrider Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 Evening gordiet Why are you removing the alternator pulley to replace the belt. This makes no sense. Are you by chance talking about the lower BELT pulley on the front of the crankshaft? If so I believe it is 34mm.
gordiet Posted August 14, 2012 Author Posted August 14, 2012 I am replaceing the belt and I just use the nut to turn the belt onto the pulley. 34MM is what I was after. GT
David13 Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 34mm? Hmmm. I didn't think it was that large. dc
eej1 Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 I just changed mine by taking the spark plugs out, putting it in 6th gear, laying the new belt over the top pulley, and laying down on the left side of the bike bumped the rear wheel with my foot and pushed the belt on the lower pulley. I obviously have no special tools to make it easy.
