8uLiebr Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 Water is seeping into my side bags. It couild be due to faulty gaskets between the lid and the base and/or the gaskets don't seal because of deformed hinges. Are replacement hinges or gaskets available? I saw neither of these in the parts fiche. Does anybody have experience replacing the system case gaskets?
BrianM Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 Try Real OEM (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do?kind=M&arch=0). They show parts for the bags, look under frame and mounting parts.
awagnon Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Do you have a lot of water leaking in? One of my '02 RT's side cases leaks a little in heavy rain. From what I've heard, that isn't all that unusual, but maybe I've heard wrong. I now use waterproof pannier liners and don't worry about it. Also, I don't carry stuff in the panniers that will be hurt with water. Clothes, etc., go in a waterproof duffle or my top case which seems to be well sealed. Good luck.
8uLiebr Posted September 2, 2012 Author Posted September 2, 2012 The diagrams I have seen do not itemize the gaskets and hinges but Bob's BMW sells them. Something like $15 for each hinge and around $27 for each gasket. My leaking may have been because I had the cases on their sides in the laundry tub while I was working on them. I'll watch for leakage during regular use before I replace these parts.
