wz31857 Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 I see that some people say the rtp transmission is a closer ratio or that the first gear is lower or what I found that the FD is 32 to 1 instead of 31 to 1,or better yet that the RTP is just a GS transmission. Can anyone clarify,I have a lead on a RTP transmission from a salvaged RTP with 20000 miles on it referencing a 04 rt
dirtrider Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 Evening wz31857 It sounds like you don't believe what you have been told so it seems like a waste of time for us to do the research for you. SO, you have some choices-- Get the numbers off the trans you are looking at & have your BMW dealer run that number for the ratio code. (If I remember correctly you have about 3 choices for gear ratios on the 1150RT) not to mention a couple of color choices. Then run the code on your present unit & compare. OR, mark your current trans input & output shaft then spin the input shaft until you get one complete turn of the output shaft, then look to see how far the input shaft spun. Then do the same on the trans you are looking at. You probably only need to do 1st & 6th gears as those are the usual different gears. (this should tell you quickly if they are the same). Depending on the RT-P that the trans came out of it is probably an authority ratio gear box (same as GS-A "enduro" or close anyhow) but different agencies could have specified a different gearing so the only way to know for sure is to check the shaft turns or track the code (possibly a X369A) for the short 1st & 6th gears.
wz31857 Posted August 13, 2012 Author Posted August 13, 2012 I just didn't know what was fact from fiction.
dirtrider Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 Evening wz31857 The only way you will know for sure is to get the transmission codes & look them up. As far as I have been able to determine the early up to mid to late 2003 1150RT-P used a standard civilian gear box or real close to it anyhow. Then sometime in late 2003 or maybe very early 2004 the RT-P went to a short 1st & 6th gear trans. But keep in mind that was the standard RT-P offered. There is nothing written in stone that a police department couldn't order their RT-P's with other transmission options if they were willing to wait for them to be built. I'm not sure of all the trans configuration (both civilian & RT-P) but there was the standard gear ratio trans used in the regular civilian RT's, a short 1st & 6th used in the GS-A enduro & later police bikes, & a long 6th gear used in some of the sportier bikes but I have no idea which ones or what rear axle ratio was needed. Might be more but those are the ones I personally know of.
wz31857 Posted August 13, 2012 Author Posted August 13, 2012 I will see if I can get the ID numbers from the seller tomorrow but how do you go about finding the information per transmission. I will start with google but if you have a specific site I would appreciate it .Sorry for being a pest BMW is a bike I have only been familiar with for maybe the 6 months I have owned this one. Appreciate your time. Thanks, Wayne ( Kind of a bummer when you haven't finished paying for the bike yet)
dirtrider Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 Morning wz31857 Your dealer is your friend when it comes to tracking down things like transmission codes & numbers. Or try calling Beemer Boneyard as they are not only very helpful but fairly knowledgeable on used BMW parts & fitments. _23007677012 (code X647a) = standard RT civilian _23007677015 (code X369a) or (code X631a euduro trans)= short 1st & 6th from 09-03 on = official vehicle _23007677009 (code X647a) long 6th gear = usage unknown to me
wz31857 Posted August 14, 2012 Author Posted August 14, 2012 OK just got in late but checked my transmission and these are all the numbers I could find. 1.893.064 424.0.0110.91 0013104jah. I guess just take what I find to a dealer but finding one around here that will give you the time of day is tough .I think I'll go the beemer boneyard route. There is an approachable dealer in Long Beach,if I get any service calls down there I could hit them up. Thanks again.
