Myse7en Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 I had a oil inlet line rust through on 95 r1100rt and fail dropping oil all down the side of the engine and some on my back tyre !! luckily I stayed on. I got a replacement line ok, but managed to get the outlet line on ebay as well but its for the non thermostat euipped r1100rt. 2 questions can I delete the oil thermostat housing and run directly to the oil rad but cutting the new inlet pipe banjo coupling off and connecting directly to the oil rad or joint the new outlet with a peice from the old outlet line, is this safe or wise? thanks in advance paul
dirtrider Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 Afternoon Paul That oil thermostat was a great improvement when operating in cooler weather so it is in your engine's best interest to keep it if at all possible. You could delete the oil thermostat but will then need pre-thermostat outlet parts to do it correctly. Probably easier to just get the correct line or maybe use parts of both your original line & the replacement line to make into a workable line. Those lines can be expanded a bit so one piece fits into the next then silver soldered to be leak free.
Myse7en Posted August 17, 2012 Author Posted August 17, 2012 just an update on this problem, I managed to remove the banjo end off the old oil inlet pipe by cutting the crimp off carefully leaving me with the banjo pipe section. this now fits into the new outlet pipe( which is for the non thermostat oil cooled bike) and will use a jubilee clip to secure it, this saved me 50 euro on the replacement.
ESokoloff Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 ........ and will use a jubilee clip to secure it, ...... Learned something new. Here in the States it's called a hose clamp.
