philbytx Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Oooooooooooohhh! I loved it Ken and Ben will be disappointed that nothing was mentioned about the Gulf of Mexico oil spill tho LOL!

Husker Red Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 UK Shell Commercial Turn the sound up.... Andy I loved that.

KTM Doug Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 While we can laugh a little at the electric racer, an AUDI R8 electric just lapped "The Ring" in only 5 seconds slower than the gas version. http://rrev.posterous.com/electric-vehicle-the-r8-e-tron-record-run-aro
Bill_Walker Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Ferrari Music! I don't think electric cars are ever going to give us the kind of sound that makes our pulses race. And man, but those guys got around! I identified Rome, New York, Tokyo, Monte Carlo. Dunno where the raised freeway over the coast is. One plus for electric cars: you don't have to worry about stalling the engine when you spin.
Kitsap Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 LOL! Sounds like an RC car...... Not nearly as nice, drywall screw guns sound better.
Gregori Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Even drivers of electric RACECARS are all over the place, and unpredictable. I thought it was just the folks who drove the consumer grade cars, but maybe it's an unavoidable part of having an electric vehicle... Hmmm.

Apparently you didn't watch the video of the R8 around "The Ring" ?
elkroeger Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Maybe they could put a loudspeaker on that thing. When I was a kid my dad had a copy of "The Firecraker 400" on VINYL. He'd play it on Sundays after church. 1/2 an hour of "VROOM, VROOM, Vroom, VROOM... VROOM, Vroom..." Dumbest thing I've ever seen, but it's perfect for this. Wow, they want $80 for that old LP. Shoot, he's probably still got it in the basement. I'll be rich! http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270566299396&_trksid=p2992.m753
Linz Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 The bridge where the Ferrari is throwing up a water spray is the Seacliffe Bridge and it's just up the road from me, about 5 miles up the coast road. They do a LOT of filming there for ads. Linz
Ken H. Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 In an effort to be balanced and sensitive to the viewpoints of MKL, Ben and Ken, I present this video. So are all F1 cars that hard to keep going in a straight line on wet streets? Or is it something about the torque curve of the electric motor (highest at stall) that makes that particular one/drive so skittish?
pbharvey Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Reminds me of the electric slot cars I had as a kid - squeeze the trigger too hard and they spin around and wipe out. The Shell video was great!

He is intentionally spinning it and just having fun.

Or is it something about the torque curve of the electric motor (highest at stall) that makes that particular one/drive so skittish? I'm pretty sure that guy was just playing with it, but apparently, NO, F1 cars are NOT so easy to drive... Top Gear's Richard Hammond trys his skill at putting nearly 1,000 hp to the track in a F1 Renault R25 with amusing results.
Ken H. Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Crazy. Especially the part about the dangers of driving it too slow. No tire grip, no brakes.
