Hmmm... what did I just do? ;)

I've been talking with my riding partner (wife), about moving to a single bike since I'm not piling up the miles on the RT anymore. At one time I had an RT, Buell Ulysses and a Buell 1125CR sport bike. However, last year I decided to sell down to a single bike and sold both Buells in order too get a Tiger 800. I've found even with two bikes, I'm not putting enough miles on either to warrant it, a buddy of mine was selling his '09 GS (loaded), that only had 770 miles on it! I quickly told him I would take it... well maybe a bit too soon. Then I found out it was the low suspension version which is too short for me (our dealer loaned me one a couple of years ago for a couple of days... worst riding position I've ever had).

Anyhow, I'm talking with our local dealer trying to determine a price for the '09 RT and '12 Tiger 800. He and I talk about lack of bikes in the shop (new year model around the corner), and he looks at what is going into production that he has on order. I ended up putting down a deposit for a new 2013 GSA that will start down the production line soon. Since he sold me both my other bikes and both have low miles on them, he is taking both in on trade, so looks like it won't cost me much (bags on the GS will be the real killer). So, after nearly 5 years of multiple bike ownership, it looks like I'll be back to a single bike. Now I have to hope I made the right decision. Going to hand over the RT later this week, so they can put that out there for folks.

You did what a lot of us do. Like a kid in a candy store.

I hate to admit it but until recently, I had 8 bikes in the garage... I am down to four and my goal is 2. My 800gs and my R90. That's it. Really.

Ok, maybe a dirt bike. But that's it. I swear .... ;)

At least when you got rid of half your bikes, you could still get rid of half your bikes.

I'd be left with a wheel and a saddle...

Actually, I was toying with what to do. I knew I wanted to get down to a single bike again, but what bike to keep and what bike to sell was the difficult part. In the end I'm selling both and buying a new/different bike. But, that initially wasn't part of the plan.

Tim, I never quite thought of it that way....I feel much better about having sold some of my toys now.....

On the other hand as a one-at-a-time guy, I had my first boxer for 34 yrs and a lot of s'miles. Got to know it pretty well both bolt by bolt and in handling. That's nice and hard to achieve with a bunch of bikes in the shed.

My compromise was to get good looking sport models and do mods to make them good tourers too. That way I have a great urban daily ride, weekend in the country with wife, and long-distance touring in one machine.

Of course, that leaves out dirt riding... maybe till I get older. But I never thought you could do much off-road riding without tires that were very poor for high-speed touring. My GS friends don't agree with that and think a GS is the perfect blend.

Since my dealer has virtually nothing at the moment (thanks to the crazy allotment by BMW), I put a deposit down on a 2013 GS Adventure. He is taking my '09 RT and 2012 Tiger in as trades. In the end, I should end up ahead (price-wise), although when I consider what I paid for the RT and Tiger, not so much so, but he is giving me top dollar for both since they both are very low mileage.

So as fate would have it, my dealer took in a low mileage 2011 GSA, so I jumped on it and tomorrow I will turn over the Triumph to him and ride away with the GSA.

Time to update my signature again (hopefully for the last time for a while).

Nice choice, you just bought a 2x2 on wheels.

I'm confused. You're trading in your Triumph XC or your wife's Tiger 800?

Not to get off topic too far, what is your impression of the Tiger 800? It's on my short list after giving my F650GS to my son-in-law. I'm looking for a lighter bike as I get older.

Al: Traded in both my RT and my Tiger 800XC for the GS Adventure. Just dropped off the Tiger this morning and picked up the GSA.

Smashing! I believe, that one can never have too many motorcycles-perhaps, one for each discipline?!

Damn It! I need to find an motorcyclists anonymous meeting somewhere. I need a sponsor. I couldn't help it. She had such awesome curves and she felt so good in the saddle.... I had to bring her home...

I know. I'm pathetic. :P

Congratulations! Possibly the best looking motorcycle ever, in my highly biased opinion, and RED! Who could resist?

You know how I feel about those bikes...

In any discussion about the most beautiful bike it is at least a candidate.

As far as 2up sport touring, #1 in my book, esp in red.

RT is a great machine too, but my heart is in the GT.

Enjoy.

Did I say how much I LOVE THAT IN RED?

Did about 210 today and all I can say is ....wow... what a fun bike.

Feels looong and as a result, very smooth. Still getting used to the servo brakes. Backed it out of the garage and realized I had no brakes.

Farkle time.

It's beautiful in person too. I was lucky enough to see it and ride with Larry yesterday. But he does need to see an addiction councilor.

Well, there is that.

Good chance to work on upper arms.

Be careful rolling out of small towns.

Real easy to leave it in 2nd and be going twice the speed limit.
