pgm Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 My choke lever is now "hard to close" - meaning that it is very difficult to push to the fully down position; where it "snaps" into position (fully depressed). I've sprayed a bit a silicone dry-lub to the internals - moving the lever up and down. It's better, but still not right. I have to push very hard down to put it in it's proper position. The metal wire seems to move well in the sleeve, so I don't think it's rust inside the cable. I should also say that the small plastic trim piece (inboard) is moving quite a bit when I push the lever down. I have to stop moving to get it into position. Not something I can do when riding, which I use to be able to do. Could it be at the far end - the choke it controls? Obviously, in this hot weather this is not a good thing.
dirtrider Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Morning pgm What are you working on? There is a difference in how the choke cable works on the early 1100's VS the later 1100's & 1150's. If your choke is as stiff as you say be careful you don't break the lever. If you have a later boxer like the 1150 that your profile shows (but we don't know if that is the bike you are working on) there is a chance one of more of the screws at the lever itself have come loose & has backed out so is now binding the lever.
Don_Eilenberger Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 You might try posting this in the oilhead forum. The hexheads have no choke lever.
pgm Posted August 7, 2012 Author Posted August 7, 2012 Its a 2004 R1150RT. It's always been stiff, just not this bad. If I look on the BMW parts drawing, does it say how it disassembles to check the mounting screws... or is there a better place to find an exploded view drawing? It seems better after the long ride this weekend.
