ok i got the tank off got all lines marked. but how in the world do you pull that thing out with out messing up anything? do you take off the fuel pump before able to pull the assembly out? im trying to make sure that the float does not get bent. i got the plug un-pluged that goes back inside the tank and the 2 internal fuel lines disconnected. (that was inside the tank) i can pull it out as far as the end of the float is touching inside the rim of the tank and on the other side the fuel filter is just past the rim of the tank but with the float rod on that side does not allow me to shift it anyway or the other im eather going to take off the float or the fuel pump? or im i just not seeing it yet? maybe it will look better in the morning i hope... i almost hate too but i really think i want to put a external fuel filter on this thing its easy to get too until you need to pull that fuel assembly out... that thing is a nightmare

It's the sock? i think they call it its fastened to the back of the fuel pump is what is holding it does that thing come out?

amazing what a few hours of sleep can do. got it out

I'm assuming you got it out. As you probably found out it just take some careful manipulation to wiggle the whole unit out through the hole.

yeah i got it out. i just was not sure when i was pulling it out that sock on how it was shaped or anything was worried that i was going to mess something up. after few hours of sleep i had it out with in 3 min and seeing a picture of what that sock looked like so i knew what i was dealing with. on a side note I am disappointed in the bmw service department, i bought this bike 7 years ago i have had dealership service done until 2 years ago, when i got to my fuel filter is was dated 2002. made me very happy i decided to start servicing this bike myself. acording to my service records i should have had a new fuel filter when i took it in for my 48,000 mile mark my bill for my last service was over 1300$ but that is with new tires but that filter should have been changed.

bike went back together good, fuel gauge works:) did 20 mile test ride came back home washed the bike with low pressure and did another 20 mile run no issues as of yet:) can feel a bit of difference in throttle now seams to add a bit more torque.

Nice work. Did you replace the internal hoses?

Posted

no i did not replace the lines. I dont think i need to yet. they still look in really good shape. i did not see no kind of damage even from where the old clamps was on the lines. so i figured why bother. i think they will last me for a wile longer. plus now that im learning how to work on this thing. im sure in 2 years ill be doing this again, maybe even next year. Ohio has such crappy gas.

only thing so far that looks to be aged and needs replaced is my clutch cable the housing is starting to crack and fall apart. i should also state i did use electronics cleaner on the one plug (I Think HES sensor?) i had to disconnect. Just got home from a 40 mile ride seams everything is clearing up good. thinking im ready to head out of state. If i dont see no issues in the next 200 miles i do. hopefully i can take off for a few days with no issues i hope
