markgoodrich Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 I'm certain I have a winner; nowhere is the notice shown located on the motorcycle as delivered from the factory.
WestyLancs Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Think you'd lose that unless you change the wording. I normally use the main stand, without 'deploying' the side stand first.
Dennis Andress Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Are you sure that's a safety problem, or could it be mearly left off for entertainment reasons?
NCStephen Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 You know a lot of money is made by manufactures in service rather than sales. This apparent oversight is probably a planned revenue enhancement feature for their, body work, parts and service division. NCS
markgoodrich Posted August 2, 2012 Author Posted August 2, 2012 Are you sure that's a safety problem, or could it be mearly left off for entertainment reasons? And who exactly is to be entertained? I have stickers on my bike regarding brakes, regarding fuel grade; I have reflectors on the side of the bike, presumably to warn off deer and texting drivers, but NOT ONE WORD about the dangers off failure to deploy the side stand. I feel certain I'm about to be a millionaire.

NCS I believe what you describe here is called a Continuing Criminal Enterprise, and relevant RICO statutes apply. This alone should get BMW to the [huge] settlement table.
NCStephen Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 LOL isn't that also why we say AKA "The Stealer"?
Paul Mihalka Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Mark, it is obvious you are a newbee to motorcycling. A few years back (like 50) bikes did not have a side stand. You got on and off just by holding and balancing the bike. When you are off then you put it on whatever stand the bike has. Side stands started as a aftermarket accessory.
tgregg Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 It is also important to put it ALL the way down, don't ask me how I know this!!

I had to tie my first ride to a hitching post. Did come when I whistled...
litigator Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 In areas with limited cell service, I often check for bars before dismounting. One time, on my GS, after I checked, I started to get off without lowering the side stand. From that high perch, once the bike started to fall, it slung me about 8 feet from the bike. Thank goodeness for engine guards.

Technical campaigns are not recalls.
mbelectric Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Betcha Bob's gets their ass chewed for that one. Can't think that the factory would be happy with that advert... MB>

MB> Nah, they may call them up and ask them what a recall is but they won't get chewed out. After all, BMWs don't have those kind of issues, just ask 'em!
mbelectric Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Well, maybe BMW might not know what a recall is, but they sure know what a buyback is. Yours should be enshrined in Munich. You aren't still riding in their gear are you? At least pull the patch off..... MB>
