DiggerJim Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Anyone know what the valve stem hole size is for the rear wheel of an R1200RT (2007 specifically in case they're different by year)? I'd like to switch to a metal valve stem (I'm using a TireGard TPMS valve cap) when I swap out the tires this month. Tried to get one from Max BMW and they sent me that right angle extension that screws onto the existing valve stem. Don't need a front 'cause it's already a metal one. TIA
aggieengineer Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 TR 412 is the valve stem that came in mine. Hope that helps.
BMWED Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 I have the equivalent of a Mr Gasket 1957 on my 07. Comes with 2 sizes of rubber seals. Think the larger one is the one I used. Ed
w2ge Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Let me be the Dope here: So that is .455(or .453, .454) of an inch, correct? (Parallax error)
dirtrider Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Let me be the Dope here: So that is .455(or .453, .454) of an inch, correct? (Parallax error) Wheel valve stem holes are usually .453" or .625". That looks real close to the .453" size.
Bob_Minor Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 So .453 must be the counterbore diameter, not the center hole.
dirtrider Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 So .453 must be the counterbore diameter, not the center hole. Evening Bob .453" would be the center hole.
BrianM Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Bob check the picture carefully. There is a pointer for the first digit - in this case a 4.
Bob_Minor Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 My bad, I missed the little arrow, all the mechanical calipers I've used are read from the inside edge.
Beech Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Try 1/4". That is a pretty rare size, normally in British bikes of old. Still available as a part no problem. The metal stems that are the the most versatile come with two gaskets packed on the stem, the .453 (11.3 mm) and the .62 (15mm in many catalogs) so they are great to have around. A little time on the web and you will find all you need. The right angle stems available (some at 45 degrees) seem to me to put too much stress on things if you are going fast such as on a K bike. Although there are some really nifty almost flat, metal valve stems that are right angle.
